Have A ____ Day.

in my world, every day needs an adjective. or two. or three.

hello again!

just a little weekly update—this time from Charleston, SC. I did a live radio show with 105.5 The Bridge and played a show that night at the Communications Museum on the College of Charleston campus. Fun, fun fun!

check it outtttt.

Have A Something New Day

good morning!

well…afternoon I guess, but it’s still hard to smile right with my sleepy eyes and lips. thank goodness for coffee

despite my efforts at being productive, i find myself behind the computer again. blogging about nothing too important.

mostly i’m thinking about what kind of day today will be, and how I feel a little restless in my skin this week. i’ve been in the mood for something new: to go adventure-ing, to claim a new favorite place, to cook a gourmet meal i’ve never made before, to go for a dance instead of a run, to talk to new people who have nothing in common with me, to find a new favorite song, to buy something different at my regular coffee shop, or heck, i don’t know, rescue an animal (preferably a squirrel).

so i did the only one of those things i can do while sitting inside, in my room, behind my computer

found a new favorite song : I WILL NEVER LOVE YOU MORE by Soko (click the link)

"I will never love you more than kisses all day, I will never love you more than cuddles all night…"

ditto.

ok anyways, I’m thinking I’ll go try some other new things now. I’m also thinking it would be so much fun if you guys commented on this post when you did something new today…if you feel like it…just throwing that out there

:)

well hello long lost blog-

as you may know, i’ve been scheduling a ton of shows for this spring. i kicked off the season THIS WEEKEND in seneca, sc (Jan. 28) and athens, ga (Jan. 29). so i’ll be hitting plenty more places over the next few months, and i’ve been brainstorming a way to keep you updated.

thus, my conclusion: i’m going to bring my flip video with me pretty much everywhere I go in order to document the ongoing fun of the tour and other little things that you may (or may not) be interested in. woo!

so, here’s the e.h spring tour video blog #1…

warning: expect silliness

Have A Foot-Dangling Day

Today was an “ugly” day, with all the rain and all the cold, with the gray sky and the naked trees. But today, for some reason, was so beautiful. And believe you me, I am not usually this enthusiastic when it comes to yuck days. I drove my car downtown at 11 am, but I didn’t have class until 1:25, so I parked really far away on purpose and I walked. Every now and then I would bring my attention to the 1-2-1-2 of my footsteps on the ground and I would do a little jump shuffle so that the other foot could have a turn out front. The thing I kept thinking is that I really need a pair of boots, because my brown mary jane’s don’t cover the tops of my feet, and they get cold. When I didn’t want to walk anymore I stopped and ordered a cup of coffee at Walker’s. One thing I really like about that place is that they have really tall booths there. Usually my feet have to touch the ground when I sit at a booth, but there I can dangle them if I want. Today I dangled them while I drank my coffee and I felt like a kid again. This old song that I haven’t heard in a really long time came on over the radio. It’s Glycerine by that British band Bush. I don’t think it’s like one of my favorite songs or anything, but I had one of those flashback moments to my high school self driving around Griffin when I was seventeen. Will had burned it for me on one of those CDs he used to give me all the time. I really miss those CDs.

So I just sat there with my feet dangling, drinking coffee, thinking about being 17, flooded by warm memories. November 29, 2010, you might’ve tried to be ugly, but to me you were beautiful.

Have A Charitable Day

SO I just did the math for my kickstarter. 17 days to go means we have to raise $297/day!

I’ve broken you down into a few types of people:

If you’re that person that keeps thinking ”Oh yeah, I’m gonna give money to that! …probably soon but I don’t have my card on me right now.”

I would say to you: now would be the time.

If you’re that person that keeps thinking ”Oh gosh, Emily posted about her kickstarter again, but I have NO money. I like her and all, but it’s pointless to give $5.”

I would say to you: No, it’s fantastic to give any money at all. I am even accepting $1 donations.

If you’re that person that thinks ”I’m not giving money to her.”

I would say to you: Thats cool too.

If you’re that person that already pledged money to my kickstarter

I would say to you: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Finally, If you’re that person that would give money, but hasn’t heard about this project yet…

I would say to the person reading this blog post: Please tell your friends about my music :)

Have A Kelly’s Day (tomorrow)

Well Hello there—

I just wanted you to know that tomorrow night (Tuesday, November 2) from 6-7 you should be at Kelly’s Jerk (Jamaican food) on Lumpkin. Why, you might be asking? Well you see, Alison & I, and my friend Mike MacDonald are playing music there. My other friend Nate Albright has been working with Nourish International to bring “Sidewalk Symphonies” to Athens. Basically what happens is this:

Mike and I love to play music. Nate contacts local restaurants that normally wouldn’t have the space for entertainment (for tomorrow, it’s Kelly’s) and asks if we can play in front of their space (sidewalk etc.). Then we invite all of our friends, and get our friends to invite their friends, to come eat dinner (at Kelly’s) and hear us play. Finally, a percentage of what the restaurant makes that night will go towards building a school, hospital, and orphanage in Kenya.

So please come, and please spread the word!

Have A Writing Day

SO ::

you may have noticed that there are not that many recent updates on this blog. You may have also noticed that although I claim to have “many” new songs, you have only heard one (if you’re a follower of this blog) or maybe four (if you came to the show at the 40 watt). Now before I tell you anything else, I would like to make a shameless plug for my show at the Melting Point. Please come and see Me, John French and the Bastilles and Kyshona Armstrong! It’s gong to be a really fun night:

Wednesday, November 10th @ The Melting Point (9:00pm). $5. Buy tickets here

Now, my biggest hesitation with putting new songs up here is that as soon as I record a version it is set in stone. And although I’m really happy with a lot of the new songs, they are still being perfected. So as long as you guys promise not to get too attached to any particular version of my new songs, then I want to keep them coming and get your opinions!

My main goal is this: over the next 2 months I’m trying to write at least one new song every week. I want to have 20-30 songs to choose from for the 12 that will go on the album. This way my first full length record will be the best it can be! (and at this point I have 15 songs that i’m working with).

So, friends, I wanted you to know that TODAY is a writing day. I’m working hard on new themes and new melodies, I’m setting up some co-writes, and I’m ready to go.

please email me if you have ANY ideas about themes for songs (i’m trying to steer clear of anymore “a boy did me wrong” songs at the moment). I really appreciated the emails I got last week! Ya’ll are the best :)

Have A Blah Day.
So, friends.
Alison and I were planning on uploading a new video today. The grand scheme is to upload a new song EVERY Thursday. And then (in theory) give you a location to find us downtown on Thursday nights where we will be busking [singing together on the streets].
However, today is just one of those blah days. The kind where you woke up and looked in the mirror and THOUGHT your hair could survive the day without being washed, but in reality it couldn’t. So now you’re walking around with greasy bangs, creases in your eyeshadow, and a chip on your shoulder. Ew.
We recorded a couple of songs today, thinking it would cheer us up, but really they just sucked. We’re working on getting some better gear to record with so we don’t look like zombies and sound like someone’s grabbing one of those “eco-friendly” sun chips bags. Until then, we’re going to grace you with this picture. Hopefully it will give you the vibe of our feelings today.
Sorry to disappoint.
Shout out to my zetas who won greek grind last night. Holla!
More videos coming soon, xoxo
